Manasamitra not the fringe

Dewsbury’s first ‘Not-the-Fringe’ festival launched by Manasamitra

Dewsbury-based arts organisation Manasamitra is set to launch Dewsbury ‘Not-The-Fringe’ Festival this spring in partnership with Dewsbury Minster. The festival will see a series of lunch-time events involving local artists and community groups.

The launch event will be held on February 25th at Dewsbury Minster and will see vocal group, Il Cor Tristo take to the stage, the group includes James Cave, who is currently preparing to tour with Manasamitra’s The Sound of Tea, launching in London this March. The performance will feature Sing Your Head Off, a Hoot Creative Arts Singing group, led by Jessica Baker, singer and community musician based in Huddersfield. Jessica works with a wide range of community singing groups and performs regularly under the moniker Kaninchen, using loop pedal and voice.

Each event will host a guest artist(s) and will feature a local community group on the programme. The events will incorporate a mixture of music, poetry, speech and sound, showcasing the rich local talent and celebrating the creative diversity within the district.

Looking forward to the project, Manasamitra founder Supriya Nagarajan said: “Being able to team up with Dewsbury Minster for ‘Not-the-Fringe’ is very exciting for us, we’re based in Dewsbury so are incredibly pleased that we can give something back and get the local communities involved, showcasing the unbelievable talent we have in the area.”
