The Strategic Mailing Partnership (SMP) has welcomed the introduction of a 48-way sortation option for machinable letter services.
The launch followed an industry-led initiative by Royal Mail to deliver improved operational efficiencies to help the whole mail supply chain and reduce the number of sorting selections from 86 to 48.
By condensing 86 selections down to 48, mailing houses could increase the number of items per selection for any given mailing, reducing the number of containers (trays or bags) required, the time required to handle them and pipeline costs – benefiting the whole industry/pipeline.
The 48-way sort option is available to use with the following services: Access 70 Mailmark letters, Access 70 OCR letters and Access 70 mech letters and Retail low sort letter products.
Judith Donovan CBE, SMP Chair, said: “This is just one of many new initiatives resulting from the key partnership of mailing houses with Royal Mail and it’s great to see the really technical issues getting addressed and resolved.”
