Lauren Chadwick joined Faith PR while studying a masters degree at University of Salford. Here, she shares the top three things she has learnt in her time with us.
I got in touch with Stefanie at Faith PR after learning I was required to undertake two weeks of work experience as a part of my Master’s degree at the University of Salford. I live in Huddersfield and Brighouse where Faith PR’s office is only a stone’s throw away, so I thought I’d drop Stefanie an email on the off chance she might be able to offer me some experience.
I’d already been let down by several agencies, because of the uncertain times we are living in at the moment, so I was quite disheartened. However, I was determined to get some more experience under my belt. Within a few hours, my two-week placement was set up and I couldn’t have been happier that I had secured some work experience with an amazing agency so local to me.
I learnt something new every day I was working with the team, from press release writing to using the PRMax database. If I was to list everything we’d be here all day! So, here are the top three things that stood out to me the most.
The importance of blogs
I didn’t realise how prominent blogs would be in the world of PR as they can be often regarded as “old-fashioned” by those who don’t know much about them. In fact, they are quite the opposite blogs allow businesses to get their message out there on their own platform. With the growth of SEO, blogs have become a key part of increasing a business’s exposure online.
Media lists are key
Before joining Faith PR, I hadn’t worked with media lists before so it was interesting to learn how they’re used. I now understand how vital it is for media lists to be kept up to date, you need accurate contact details to be able to communicate your news with journalists. If you don’t have this, it makes it very difficult to get information out about your clients!
A social media presence is essential
Another side of the agency I worked on was social media. I completed social media research for clients, as well as planning content for their channels. Social media is something you can completely personalise to promote your key messages, products or services. It’s an amazing tool to put yourself out there, build your online profile and definitely something to take advantage of as there’s so much creative freedom.
My two weeks at Faith PR flew by and I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to gain some valuable agency experience. The variety of clients meant that every day was different and there were always new skills to learn and develop on.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
